It has been reported in the Indian press today that a �blanket CCTV network� could soon cover the whole of the city, with banks of CCTV cameras capturing images of every possible threat to security. Apparently the government on Friday formed a core group of eight members to look into the possibility of enlisting the aid of Indian Merchant Chambers (IMC) to set up such a system. The plans follow in the wake of 26/11, the IMC had been discussing with the government how it could contribute towards the city�s security. It has proposed setting up of a CCTV network across the city�s 2,000-odd roads and by-lanes to monitor the traffic and other movements. According to the proposal, the cameras would capture images along the roads which could pick suspicious movements and alert security authorities.
